Started the puppies on their solid food today! Because they don’t have teeth yet (working on it though) I make sure to soak their dry puppy food in water until it is completely soft before feeding them. That way it is easy for them to eat and digest. As their teeth grow in, I will lessen the softness of their food. If the puppies have a choice, they’ll still go for mamma’s milk every time, and their desire to nurse will last for about three to four more weeks. If I’m not careful to shut Daisy out of the pen while they are eating, she will eat all of their food and they will be more than happy to catch a free milk snack instead!

Phew, big day today. We’re doing a lot of outdoor setup for something we’re hosting this weekend, but some of my little helpers and I did get to take a little break for some puppy love.

They’re really enjoying their playpen area now. They CAN get back in bed, but this particular pile of puppies happened just after their breakfast, and apparently they lacked the motivation to go ALL the way over to get in bed. 😉
Friday, September 18, 2020 (Day of Trumpets/Shouting)
Today was a big day, but not for the puppies. We had quite a few people over for an outdoor event, but it was just a little too crisp of an afternoon/evening to bring the puppies out to socialize. So they stayed in their pen with Daisy and never knew what they were missing!

A little overflow from last night’s thing; we had one of the families coming from a distance stay with us into today. That’s when the puppies got to come out for their visit, and enjoyed some extra cuddling.

The puppies are starting to play HARD now, and they love to climb up in my lap when I sit with them. The way they’re automatically drawn to people already is so sweet!

Last night Daisy did NOT want to sleep in her crate with the puppies, so I let her bunk up with my other adults for the night. I didn’t hear a peep out of her or the puppies all night long, so I guess her sense of timing is right! She still checks on them all the time and nurses periodically, but she’s definitely starting to enjoy a little bit of freedom. She also got a haircut today, but the difference between a good haircut and a bad haircut is about two weeks so you’ll start to see pictures of her again around then. 😉
Picture time was chilly today so the puppies wanted to cuddle rather than explore, which was fine with me. Speaking of which, Happy Fall! Check your puppy picture folders for 5 week pics!
