Puppy Diary Series: Week 2

Tuesday, August 25, 2020

Another quiet day. The rest of my family are getting to know the puppies now too… this is my brother. Thankfully he loves the puppies and they love him, which really helps round out their socialization with big people as well as little people!

I made an experimental modification to the puppies’ bedding today. I have always put a towel down in the crate instead of something fluffier because it is so much more practical to change and wash on a regular basis. I always have a huge stack of towels by the crate so that I have a fresh one on hand for their bedding at any time. The only problem is that Daisy is a big nester, and scratches that towel around so much the puppies aren’t even laying on it any more. So today I took the towel, folded it to the right size, and added little ties to the edges so it wouldn’t slide around so much. I put it in, *thought* I tied it securely, came back a little while later to this:

Today was a much better bedding day. The ties held on the towel and she stopped messing with them. so I think I’ll modify some more.

We had some storms start blowing through, getting some of the leftovers of Hurricane Laura. Oliver (the puppies’ daddy) isn’t a huge fan of storms and so he decided to take comfort in Daisy’s crate with the puppies. Much to my surprise she peacefully let him stay in there with them and they were one big happy family. She is also starting to be slightly more relaxed with Zoe, and Zoe’s accepting the fact that Daisy needs space, so true peace should reign again soon.

I’d say this picture pretty much sums up the day…

The puppies got some more socialization today with a bunch of sweet and surprisingly gentle siblings that were over for a few hours. The coolest part is that Daisy’s puppies were the first puppies these kiddos have ever met, and I think the love was mutual.

Darcy has a new name… drum roll please… Riley! I”m excited for his new family. Another fun surprise tonight: he was the first one to fully open his eyes. I was expecting DJ to go first but looks like Riley beat him to it!

Dianna’s eyes are also opening, and we’ll see if the other two puppies open theirs in time to smile for the camera tomorrow. 😉 I can tell they’re also starting to hear what’s going on around them. The fun’s really starting now…
